As of 1 July 2011, the Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) has consolidated 159 health and ageing programs into 18 larger flexible Funds.
DoHA has subsequently released discussion papers seeking feedback on each of the Funds. This feedback will contribute to the development of the Funds’ Guidelines. Vision 2020 Australia has submitted several responses, as communicated with member CEOs, noting that eye health and vision care should be considered a priority by the Australian Government – particularly given; the links between eyes and the many facets of chronic disease, Australia’s international obligations, eye health and vision care in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Australia’s ageing population and the need to focus on low vision and rehabilitation.
