Dr Sharon Bentley obtained her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Optometry at the University of Melbourne, Australia. She has worked in a variety of clinical and academic settings, both in Australia and Canada. She was a senior consultant and educator at Vision Australia clinics for more than ten years. She has conducted research on the effects of low vision, on the effectiveness of rehabilitation strategies and on low vision service delivery for more than 15 years. Currently, Dr Bentley is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Medicine (Optometry), Deakin University, responsible for teaching and learning in low vision rehabilitation and public health. She is also a sessional Optometrist at the Australian College of Optometry, an Associate Editor for Clinical and Experimental Optometry and a Churchill Fellow. For more than 20 years Dr Bentley has been a member of the Optometrists Association (OAA), the peak professional body representing more than 4000 Australian optometrists, and is currently convener of the OAA Low Vision Working Group. Dr Bentley is the current Chair of the Vision 2020 Australia Low Vision and Rehabilitation Committee.
