Following recent alarming research about employer attitudes, this submission recommends urgent changes to eligibility criteria to allow more people who are blind or have low vision access to Disability Employment Services (DES). It suggests that any new model for the service should aim to encourage providers with specialist knowledge of blindness and low vision. It also recommends the introduction of a new model should be delayed in order to ensure it is informed by recommendations by the Disability Royal Commission, and tested through a pilot process.
