Optometry Australia is inviting all members and sector stakeholders to attend one of seven Optometry 2040 workshops being held in capital cities throughout Australia.
These innovative and highly engaging workshops will take place between July and September with numbers limited per workshop.
The workshops are being launched to help shape the outcomes of Optometry 2040, an initiative led by Optometry Australia aimed at identifying likely and preferred futures for optometry, optometrists, and community eye health in Australia over the next 20 years.
CEO Lyn Brodie said the initiative is vital to the profession and will help ensure that optometrists are well placed to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future.
‘Optometry 2040 seeks to respond to concerns that the future is looking more uncertain for many due to the on-going turbulence resulting from technological, economic, political and demographic change.
‘We want as much participation from our members and sector stakeholders in this project as possible so that together we can identify our preferred futures and build the relevant plans for it to become a reality,’ she said.
‘These innovative workshops will use proven techniques that enable participants to identify what is needed to ensure the preferred futures that we seek for optometry become a reality.
Ms Brodie said the outcomes of all workshops will feed into the creation of a multi-decade strategy that will become the blueprint for a progressive Australian optometry sector. The findings will assist the sector, Optometry Australia and individual optometrists to control and direct their future.
To kick-start these workshops, Early Career Optometrists and State Presidents attended a joint workshop in Melbourne in May, presented by world-leading future studies expert, Professor Sohail Inayatullah.
‘We have had brilliant feedback from these participants who found this workshop highly insightful,’ Ms Brodie said.
The next workshops will take place in Sydney, in conjunction with SILMO Sydney 2018, as follows:

1:30pm to 3:30pm, Saturday 21 July 2018, ICC Sydney
As Optometry Australia is a key partner of SILMO Sydney 2018, members will be able to access the conference before or after the workshops.
